Free Concerts on the Beach Coming Up

The Tony Mart Tribute Fest presents a series of free concerts in Somers Point in coming weeks.

Concerts are held at 7 p.m. on the William Morrow Beach and Municipal Beach Park, located between Higbee and New Jersey avenues on Bay Avenue.

On Friday, Aug. 16, Bonerama performs a tribute to Led Zeppelin as well as a funky set of New Orleans party music at the AtlantiCare Concerts on the Beach series.

Just announced, on Friday, Aug. 23, there will be tribute to Woodstock’s 50th anniversary with acclaimed guitarist Stanley Jordan preforming his tribute to Jimi Hendrix.

Jordan’s career includes four Grammy nominations and a No. 1 album on the Downbeat Charts. In addition to a 90-minute tribute to Hendrix, the show will also include the Hawkins Road and Coconutz Supergroup performance of music by Crosby, Stills and Nash, Santana, Janis Joplin and more classic Woodstock songs.

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, one of the hottest off-Broadway rock ‘n’ roll performers in the New York region, Remember Jones, will perform its 12-piece, high-energy tribute to Queen, Joe Cocker, Leon Russell and the music of Remember Jones.

On that same evening, one of the finest Beatles tribute bands in the world, the Weeklings, will perform with their star, Glen Burtnik, who originally appeared on Broadway in Beatlemania and in many recordings and performances with the Electric Light Orchestra and Styx.

Then on Aug. 30, the AtlantiCare Concerts on the Beach series in Somers Point will present one of the finest Chicago tribute bands in the world, Beginnings. The band will perform a two-hour-plus tribute to the music of one of America’s most popular horn-driven rock ‘n’ roll groups.
