The Ocean City Tabernacle welcomes back six-time NFL Pro Bowler and former Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers for the 8:30 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services on Sunday, July 18.
Akers played most of his 15-year NFL career in Philadelphia, earning induction into the Eagles Hall of Fame and being named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s.
In addition to his successful NFL career, Akers has also been active in ministry and community service for many years. He is a licensed minister, founder of David Akers Ministries and “Kick for Kids,” and a published author.
His book, “Winning in Spite Of” (2016), presents “nine Biblical principles for turning hard times into personal growth, increased impact, and abundant life.”
Also returning to the Tabernacle on July 18 will be singer-songwriter, recording artist and worship leader Laura Story. Writer of popular Christian songs like “Indescribable” and “I Give Up,” Story has received multiple Dove Awards as well as Grammy and Billboard Music “Song of the Year” recognition for 2012’s “Blessings.”
In addition to her studio and touring work, Laura serves as the creative resource director for Perimeter Church in Atlanta.
The free concert begins at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. for first come, first served seating and a hymn sing at 6:30 p.m.
