The Somers Point Arts Commission is calling for professional and amateur artists to participate in the fourth annual Art in the Park at John F. Kennedy Park on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Art in the Park accepts traditional two dimensional work in the following categories: oil/acrylic; drawing/pastels; watercolor; hand-pulled prints and mixed media/collage. Artists may also participate in a “plein air” painting competition by artists painting on location.

Prizes will be awarded to first and second place and Honorable Mention to both professional and amateur artists and to a plein air artist. Attendees will also vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Interested artists can obtain an application ($20) by contacting somersptarts@gmail.com, downloading the application from somerspointgov.org/Boards and Commissions/Arts Commission/2019 Artist Application Brochure.

Hard copies of the application are also available at Somers Point City Hall, Clerk’s Office, 1 West New Jersey Ave.

Additional attractions will include interactive art experiences for adults and children, entertainment by the Tom Angello Jazz Trio and additional entertainers.

There will be a children’s clothesline art exhibit featuring the work of Somers Point students in the after-school C.A.S.T.L.E program.

Interactive art activities for children include Cardboard Construction, Collage Corner, Design & Paint Your Own Backpack, Yoga, a Collaborative Painting Activity, Free Expression Graffiti Art, and Face Painting.

Food vendors include Jay’s Crab Shack & Upper Sandwiches, Maui Joe’s Shaved Ice and Mr. Ice Cream Man. The event is free and open to the public.
