Shore Physicians Group will continue its successful “Be Well Connected” community breakfast education series in 2019 with a discussion on stroke and heart health in celebration of American Heart Month on Friday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point.
Guests will hear from Shore experts, including cardiologist Dr. Gene Iucci with Penn Cardiology Somers Point, who will give an overview of cardiovascular health; neurologist Dr. Joshua Daniel, of Shore Physicians Group, who will explain the connection between heart health and stroke; and nurse Rosemary Reehill, Shore Medical Center’s Joint Commission Center of Excellence supervisor, who will explain the services available at Shore for people who are having a stroke.
According to the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts/ruptures.
When that happens, part of the brain cannot get the blood and oxygen it needs, so it and brain cells die.
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States.
The event will also include a free continental breakfast, question and answer session, and information on additional resources.
