The Somers Mansion is a historic site.

On Saturday, May 6, at 10 a.m. a team of archeologists will do some digs at the Somers Mansion, 1000 Shore Road in Somers Point.

Members of the public are invited to participate in the dig as part of a Public Archeology Day.

On March 4, archeologists led by Professor Richard Veit of Monmouth University came to the Somers Mansion to begin the process of evaluating the site for a dig coordinated by the Patriots for the Somers Mansion and historian Dr. Levi Fox.

The evaluation was paid for with a New Jersey Council for the Humanities grant.

After digging numerous test pits at 25 or 50 foot intervals depending on the location, the team located a couple of hopeful spots for further excavations on the immediate south and west sides of the mansion.
