Born in London, England, Richard Tschernia moved to the United States of America at just three years old. Growing up in Long Beach, New York, he attended the State University of NY Farmingdale before beginning his career in mortgage banking. Throughout his decades in the business, he has used his knowledge of lending processes for charitable reasons, including helping veterans receive mortgage funding approval.

From guiding veterans through the VA loan process to providing practical help to those experiencing temporary employment difficulties, Richard Tschernia knows how to leave a positive mark on people who need it the most.

Richard Tschernia – Helping Those Experiencing Employment Disruptions

The Amalgamated Transit Union is the largest labor union representing allied and transit workers throughout the US and Canada. Founded in 1892, it’s comprised of more than 200,000 members including maintenance employees, baggage handlers, municipal employees, school bus drivers, mechanics, clerks, subway professionals, and so many others.

Fighting for transit workers by organizing local unions, negotiating bargaining contracts, representing members during management disputes, and ensuring employers adhere to the various provisions outlined in the aforementioned bargaining contracts.

And on March 21 to 25, 2022, the organization held the Amalgamated Transit Union General Executive Board Spring Meeting, wherein Richard Tschernia was invited to give a presentation as the senior vice president of CrossCountry Mortgage Affinity Lending.

We were joined by our branch manager, who explained a valuable program we offer – the payment interruption program. It assists members of the union who are experiencing employment interruption caused by layoffs, unfair discipline, and labor disputes.

Since such situations can wreak havoc in these people’s lives, the payment interruption program offers members a welcome relief from mortgage payments until they get back on their feet.

After hearing the presentation and the stress-relieving break it provides people going through hard times, the General Executive Board of the Amalgamated Transit Union voted to endorse the program. The endorsement permitted the international president to publicize the initiative to its over 200,000 members.

Without the passionate presentation and the general concern over the welfare of these individuals that Richard Tschernia showed, the motion may not have been granted. But this isn’t where his charitable endeavors ended.

Richard Tschernia Assisting Veterans Through the VA Loan Process

As the senior vice president of Affinity Lending at CrossCountry Mortgage, Richard Tschernia emphasizes the importance of listening. He learns to understand the goals and priorities of the person he’s working with to come up with the best route forward — and sometimes, the best route is guiding them through every step of the VA loan process.

VA loans are a mortgage backed by the US Department of Veterans Affairs and is available to veterans, current service members, and surviving spouses. The benefits of such loans for these individuals are innumerable, including but not necessarily limited to the following:

  • The benefits can be reused.
  • A down payment may not be required.
  • There’s no need for private mortgage insurance (PMI).
  • The mortgage loan can be refinanced in the future.

But despite all these advantages, the process can be rather long-winded and incredibly complex. From preapproval to obtaining the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to talking to the USAA bank loan officer, many people struggle to handle the convoluted nature of the proceedings. And that’s where Richard Tschernia comes in to save the day.

Essentially, Tschernia does it all. He’s honored to help those who’ve worked tirelessly to serve the country and their family members obtain the Veterans Affairs loans they need to buy or refinance the homes of their dreams.

And as time continues, these people will undoubtably experience more of the charity this experienced man has to offer.
