Somers Point Holiday Parade & Float Competition

Friday, Dec. 6 – 6:30 p.m.

Somers Point Community Education & Recreation

On Friday, Dec. 6 the Somers Point Community Education and Recreation (CER) Office will kick things off for the holidays in Somers Point with a grand parade beginning at Dawes Avenue and continuing down Shore Road, ending at City Hall. Santa Claus will be waiting inside City Hall to visit with children. A float competition, music and a variety of other entrants will make this parade a wonderful way to kick off the season. The event is free and open to the public.

Painting for Patcong Creek Holiday Crab Shell Painting and Film Night

Friday, Dec. 6 – 6:30 p.m.

Patcong Creek Foundation

The Patcong Creek Foundation (PCF) will host its annual Painting for Patcong Creek holiday crab shell painting fundraiser, along with a private showing of the documentary “On The Line: The Story of America’s Largest Crabbing Tournament,” on Friday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Seashore Science Center in Somers Point, 599 Marks Road.

The shells are cleaned and primed in advance, and each guest receives three shells to make their unique holiday creations. Children can join in on the fun by painting clam shells, making this a fun evening for the whole family. Tickets for the shell painting are $20 for adults, $10 for children. Seating is limited.

Somers Point Community Education & Recreation (CER) Free Children’s Tree Trimming Afternoon

Saturday, Dec. 7 – noon to 2 p.m.

Senior Citizen Center

The CER will host a free Children’s Tree Trimming Afternoon from 12-2 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Center, 22 North Ambler Road. Kids will learn about the way trees were decorated in Early America, using traditional materials such as fruits, “candlesticks” and fabric. The decorations they create will be hung on the Somers Mansion tree in preparation for the Somers Mansion Tree Lighting on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Somers Mansion Tree Lighting

Saturday, Dec. 7 – 5 p.m.

A tree lighting ceremony with traditional ornaments created by local students will take place at Somers Mansion on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m., put on by the Somers Point Community Education and Recreation (CER) Office. Attendees will enjoy festive music from the Victorian “Village Carolers”and refreshments.

Holiday Porch Performances

Saturday, Dec. 7 – 6 p.m.

Beginning at 6 p.m. at 30 Somers Avenue and following the tree lighting at Somers Mansion, a four-act spoof of “A Christmas Carol” will take place on four different porches in the Bayfront Historic District.
