More Summer Fun to Come in Somers Point

The City of Somers Point will host “Connection Thursdays: Get Plugged In” Contemporary Christian Concerts on the Beach Series every Thursday during the month of August, featuring contemporary and traditional performances by local church bands.

The concerts are scheduled to take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at William Morrow Beach on Bay Avenue and are free to attend. There will be limited snacks and beverages available for purchase at each concert.

Gateway to The Arts Presents: Disney Spectacular:

Gateway Playhouse Musical Munchkins (ages 5-11) perform their final production of Disney Spectacular. The culmination of a five-week Summer Theater Program, Gateway to The Arts. Don’t miss this heartwarming show with some of Gateway Playhouse’s most talented stars to be.

2019 AtlantiCare Concerts on the Beach

Fridays through September 6

Somers Point continues its annual Somers Point Beach Concert Series until Friday, September 6 at William Morrow Beach on Bay Avenue. The concert series is free to attend every Friday at 7 p.m. during the summer, and is celebrating 27 years of great music and memories.

A special Labor Day Weekend concert is scheduled on Sunday, September 1. Attendees can look forward to performances by several award-winning international recording artists from a variety of different genres, including Country, Blues, Jazz and Classic Rock, among others.

Victorian Vaudeville

Sunday, August 4 – 6 p.m.

The Somers Point Arts Commission along with support from The Somers Point Unique Experiences Club presents a free performance of REV’s Victorian Vaudeville on Sunday, August 4 at 6 p.m. at John F. Kennedy Park, 24 Broadway, Somers Point. REV Theater is a professional theater based at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and has performed to rave revues in Cape May, Philadelphia and Connecticut.

Kids’ Concert on the Beach

Monday, August 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Nae Breeks Pipes & Drums Band take traditional bagpipes and turn the music into a kids’ party of music on William Morrow Beach. Children can play interactive instruments, dance to sea chanties and even participate in a mini-parade around the beach.

National Night Out – 6-8 p.m.

Tuesday, August 6

National Night Out will be held in Somers Point on Tuesday, August 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the William Morrow Beach on Bay Avenue. The event, hosted by the Somers Point Police Department and the Municipal Drug Alliance, is free to the public and will feature live music, free refreshments, children’s activities and much more.

The Green Thumb Garden Club’s 2019 Garden Contest Winners Celebration

The winners of the Green Thumb Garden Club’s 2019 Somers Point Garden Contest will be recognized at Somers Point City Hall by the City Council. Winners and members are invited to attend.

From Classics to Jazz with South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble

For 21 years, the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble (SJAWE) has been delighting audiences across the region with its concert music. In 2017 SJAWE celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington. DC.

“The Tony Mart Experience”

Tuesday, August 27

“The Tony Mart Experience” will take place at the Gateway Playhouse, 738 Bay Avenue, Somers Point on Tuesday, August 27. Carmen Marotta and the Tony Mart Performers will highlight the 1950’s and 1960’s nightlife, along with live music. A special tribute to the memory of Bob Campanell will also take place.

This is a ticketed event and is expected to sell out. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the Somers Point Beach Concerts, or at the Somers Point Historical Museum, 745 Shore Road.

 

The Green Thumb Garden Club Kick-off to 2019-2020 Year

Tuesday, September 3 – 7 p.m.

The Green Thumb Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, September 3 at 7 p.m. to kick-off its 2019-2020 year. Linda Keyser will present a program on “Greenhouse Gardening in the Yukon Territory.” Annual dues of $10 will be collected. New members are welcome. The club meets at the Senior Citizen Center at the corner of Ambler Road and Massachusetts Avenue in Somers Point.

Good Old Days Festival

Saturday, September 7 – 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The Annual Somers Point Good Old Days Festival will say farewell to summer in Somers Point from 11 – 6 p.m. Saturday, September 7 at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park – an event which the City of Somers Point anticipates thousands will attend. There will be antique cars on display, children’s entertainment including carnival games, inflatables, a magician, pony rides, karate demonstrations, as well as K-9 demonstrations, over 20 vendors and community groups, food and treats including hot dogs and hamburgers fresh from the grill. Attendees will enjoy musical performances, on two different stages.

Richard Somers Day

Sunday, September 8 – 2 p.m.

The City of Somers Point and the Somers Point Historical Society will sponsor the annual Richard Somers Day on Sunday, September 8 at 2 p.m. at the Richard Somers Memorial Park, 801 Shore Road, Somers Point. Each year, a memorial remembrance is held for local Barbary War naval hero Richard Somers and the crew from the Intrepid. In case of rain, the memorial will be held in the Council Chambers of the Somers Point City Hall, 1 West New Jersey Avenue, Somers Point. Tours of Somers Mansion and the Somers Point Historical Museum are available preceding and after the program.

The Somers Point Historical Society will present a program, “More Murder and Mayhem in Somers Point” on Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m. You will be “entertained” by some of the bizarre and interesting stories from Somers Point’s past. Somers Point Historical Society Mini-Trip

Saturday, September 28

The Somers Point Historical Society will be hosting a mini-trip to local World War II sites on Saturday, September 28. The trip will take place via van, and will visit the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum and Fire Control Tower No. 23 in Cape May.
