It is that time of year again where the city of Somers Point begins the dedicated planning of the 29th annual Bayfest. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 29th from 10am to 5pm (rain or shine) along the Historic Bay Avenue in Somers Point.

The Somers Point Bayfest has become the largest, single day festival in South Jersey. Each year the Bayfest Committee uses the proceeds from the event to help fund special projects for the residents of Somers Point. The event is great for all ages, so come out and enjoy a day full of fun, food, crafts, music and more!

bayfest2-4“Planning Bayfest takes a lot of time and dedication from the Committee, but the size of the crowd each year and the amount of money we are able to raise for the community, is quite rewarding. We couldn’t do it without the help of our vendors, promotors, and volunteers.”- Geoff Hieb, Somers Point Bayfest Committee

This year visitors can expect to see bands such as country artists The Rhythm Wranglers and the return of the soul-driven rock n’ roll group, Atley Moon & The Say Somethings. Kids can look forward to the fish toss making another appearance, along with the Atlantic City Aquarium Touch Tank. As always, there will be plenty of crafters and food vendors lining the streets. Shop for jewelry and unique candles, while snacking on delicious baked goods or crab cakes.

bayfest1-4The original Somers Point Bayfest was created to celebrate Earth Day and the environment. In previous years, 5th and 6th grade students from the Somers Point Dawes Avenue School participated in the festival with their Save the Bluff Fund. The project increased community awareness while raising funds for the purchase and plating of indigenous plant materials needed to save our coastal bluffs. Erosion is deteriorating the bluff at Kennedy Park, which is one of only two coastal bluffs in New Jersey. To this day, Bayfest continues to host a variety of environmental groups that help educate the public on important issues the area faces.
