The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit is seeking the identity of a woman whose human remains were found in Mullica Township more than 35 years ago.
The prosecutor is requesting the assistance of relatives and friends of James “Crab Daddy” Whiting Jr. (1916–2011), an Atlantic County resident who lived and worked in the Atlantic City and Pleasantville areas.
With the assistance of the FBI, the Prosecutor’s Office is currently working to identify human remains recovered in Mullica Township in July 1988. Law enforcement officials believe Whiting is the biological father of this unknown woman.
The unidentified woman is believed to be a black female born between 1953 and 1963. She was estimated to be 5 feet, 2 inches tall and had given birth at least once in her lifetime.
Anyone who may have information to assist in identifying the woman Whiting had a child with during those years, or who can help in identifying the female, is strongly encouraged to contact the Prosecutor’s Office or FBI.
