Atlantic County’s Nutrition Program that includes the operation of 10 senior nutrition sites and home-delivered meals to homebound county residents was found in full compliance with all regulations and requirements in its annual state audit, according to County Executive Dennis Levinson.

“This perfect audit of our nutrition program follows our 24th consecutive perfect audit of the county’s fiscal operations,” Levinson said in a news release. “Our residents can remain confident in the quality and integrity of Atlantic County government, its programs and services.”

The audit, conducted in September 2023, reviewed program management, program quality assurance, safety and sanitation, activities and program enhancement, and food service quality.

The evaluation noted “progressive increases in attendance and participation” at the senior nutrition sites following the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped to alleviate social isolation. The 2023 numbers are expected to exceed those of 2022 in which 207,167 meals were provided to 1,794 seniors.

The Nutrition Program was also commended for its efforts to refer older adults dealing with food insecurity to local food banks and to advise them of the availability of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Program participants were also afforded an opportunity to receive vaccinations and health education as a result of a partnership with the county’s Division of Public Health.

The senior nutrition sites are available to county residents 60 years and older.  They provide social activities and a free lunch-time meal. Transportation is also available.
