South Jersey Coastal Rowing will welcome former Olympic rower John Strotbeck as guest speaker during a fundraiser at Gregory’s Restaurant in Somers Point.

The event is scheduled for Feb. 4 from 12 to 3 p.m. It will coincide with the U.S. Rowing’s National Convention in Atlantic City, which runs from Feb. 3-5. Gregory’s Restaurant is located at 900 Shore Road in Somers Point.

Strotbeck, a former Atlantic City lifeguard, rowed for the United States in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic games and served as team captain in 1988.

The International Olympic Committee recently announced it will consider the inclusion of coastal rowing in the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Coastal rowing competitions feature singles, doubles and quad boats in male, female, and mixed-boat categories.

Members of South Jersey Rowing Club will attend the fundraiser to join in the excitement and support efforts to make coastal rowing an official Olympic sport.

South Jersey Coastal Rowing directors include Tom McCann, president, David Funk, vice president, Tom Feaster, secretary, Dan Adams, co-treasurer, and members Joe Grimes, John Swift, Dan Garbutt, Joe Guenther, Gregory Gregory, Thomas Sher, Carlo Losco and Wayne MacMurray.

Donations at the event to South Jersey Coastal Rowing are tax deductible as a charitable contribution.
