Shore Medical Center is extending its thanks to the Leif Aleutian Foundation for a donation of $5,607 to help care for babies in the hospital’s Special Care Nursery.
Their support will go a long way in assisting the Special Care Nursery team, which uses high-tech monitoring devices and other interventions to help babies born as early as 32 weeks become healthy enough to go home, Shore said in a statement on its Facebook page.
For the past three years, the Leif Aleutian Foundation has supported the Special Care Nursery through a 5K fun run, called Leif’s Legacy, in Sea Isle City.
Jen and Brian Larsen, who split their time between Sea Isle and Alaska, established the foundation and run to honor their baby, Leif Aleutian, who was born prematurely at 26 weeks and lived only 52 hours.
To date, the Leif Aleutian Foundation has donated more than $12,000 to support the Special Care Nursery.
Donations from the Larsen family through the foundation not only support the nursery, but also raise awareness of infant and pregnancy loss, Shore said on its Facebook page.
