Libertas Funding, LLC, a Greenwich, Connecticut based company led by Gary Katcher, its Founder and Executive Chairman, models the ways in which companies can support their local communities, including by joining the fight to reduce hunger.
Hunger is a serious and widespread issue in America. The United States Department of Agriculture estimated that in 2022 over 10% of Americans were food insecure during some portion of the year. More locally, according to The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County (“Fairfield Food Bank”), one out of every five children in Connecticut has experienced, or is at risk of experiencing, hunger. Moreover, in lower Fairfield County, the Fairfield Food Bank reports that over the past five years, the need for emergency food has doubled.
Food drives are critical to the Fairfield Food Bank’s ability to help people; in fact, they have helped provide food for over 300,000 individuals. When they spread the word that they needed donations, Libertas Funding welcomed the opportunity to join. Gary Katcher commented that “no one in our community should suffer from hunger, and we want to do what we can to help our neighbors.”
To date, Gary Katcher and Libertas Funding have participated in both a holiday fundraising drive and a separate food drive. For the first event, Libertas Funding, LLC raised money to purchase turkeys for families in need during Thanksgiving. During the second event, Libertas Funding, LLC collected all types of food for all meals (and of course, dessert!).
Gary Katcher stated that he was pleased to see how employees came together to help those in need and he is looking forward to Libertas Funding, LLC holding more food drives in the future.
