In an effort to further ensure public safety and save taxpayers money, the Atlantic County Office of Emergency Preparedness is updating its emergency alerts notification system that provides registered participants with automated emergency alerts via phone, email or text message.

“The emergency alert notification system is a valuable and potentially lifesaving resource for residents, businesses and second homeowners in Atlantic County,” stated Dennis Levinson, county executive. “Emergencies can happen at any time and with hurricane season beginning June 1, now is an ideal time to register for this important service.”

According to Levinson, the county has contracted with a new vendor that will save taxpayers $8,900 the first year and more than $58,000 over five years.

The new system, provided by OnSolve Code Red, may be used for emergency alerts that require individuals to evacuate, shelter-in-place, boil water, etc. as well as non-emergency incidents involving missing persons, significant transportation impacts, and police or fire activity.

The alerts are provided as a free service to registrants. However, standard text messaging rates and other charges may apply.

To register, visit:  https://www.atlantic-county.org/oep/emergency-notification-system.asp. You may also access the registration page by texting ATLCO-OEM to 24639.

An email address is required for account registration. Those without an email address may create one using free services such as Gmail at google.com or Outlook at Microsoft.com. Once registered, you may select the method you would like to receive alerts, such as email, phone or text message.

Individuals or businesses that previously registered with the Atlantic County Emergency Notification System should re-register to ensure all information in the system is current and accurate.

After completing the registration, participants are strongly encouraged to save in their contacts as “Atlantic County Alerts” the phone number, 206-536-3695, and/or text contact, 24639, from which they will receive alerts so they will be easily recognized when issued.
