Shore Medical Center held its annual Guardian Angel Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, where 88 Shore staff members were honored for providing passionate and exceptional care to Shore’s patients.

The Guardian Angel program enables grateful patients and families to thank a Shore caregiver with a donation to Shore Medical Center in their honor.

Throughout the year, Shore’s Guardian Angels are recognized individually at presentations in their department, where they receive a certificate and hear the thoughtful words shared by the patient about the difference their Shore Guardian Angel made in their experience.

The Guardian Angel Pinning Ceremony each December brings the year’s Guardian Angels together to receive their Guardian Angel pins in the company of their family, friends, colleagues and even the patients who nominated them.

During the ceremony, Shore Lightkeeper’s Society Manager Mary McGuckin, who also runs the Guardian Angel program, welcomed guests.

“The Guardian Angel program was founded in 2007 to give patients and their families an opportunity to show their appreciation for the dedicated men and women at Shore who care for them by making a donation,” McGuckin said in a news release. “While supporting the medical center, these gifts also shine a spotlight on the exceptional caregivers at Shore, making them an example for their peers and emphasizing our commitment to patient-centered care.”

Shore Chief Nursing Officer Holly Badali said, “The patients and families who generously made Guardian Angel donations in honor of their Shore caregivers were often going through a challenging health experience, so it is especially meaningful that they took the time to acknowledge our caregivers in such a thoughtful way.”

McGuckin then called up each recipient and Badali presented them with a custom-designed Guardian Angel pin to wear proudly on their badge as a symbol of the difference they made.
