The Atlantic County Utilities Authority hosted an “America Recycles Day” open house Saturday, Nov. 18, at the ACUA Recycling Center, 6700 Delilah Road in Egg Harbor Township.

America Recycles Day is a nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

“Recycling is an easy way for everyone to reduce waste and lessen their environmental impact,” ACUA President Matt DeNafo said. “America Recycles Day gives us another opportunity to welcome residents and help everyone to understand their role in the process and why it is important to recycle correctly.”

Visitors to the open house got to see a host of exciting things.

Children were able to climb aboard one of ACUA’s vehicles and see what it’s like to sit in the driver’s seat of a recycling truck.

In addition to “Touch a Truck,” the event featured local environmental organizations, recycled crafts, activities, games and an appearance by ACUA mascot Supercan.

Art from the Atlantic County Recycled Art Contest was on exhibit and contest winners were recognized during an awards ceremony.

The Atlantic County Clean Communities Program also celebrated its “Fall Litter Challenge” winners at the ceremony.

Tours of the facility were also offered.
