Atlantic County Residents Earn Honors at Statewide Art Show

Three artists who exhibited their work at the Atlantic County Senior Citizens Art Show held at the Atlantic County Library/Ventnor in June, went on to win awards at the statewide competition held in West Windsor Oct. 12.

Edward Garvey of Mays Landing received first place and Best of Show honors for his oil painting, “Lake Como, Italy,” in the 57th annual New Jersey Senior Citizens Art Show.

Barbara Leiby of Brigantine received honorable mention for her untitled watercolor painting of flowers.

Others receiving honorable mentions are Barbara Leiby of Brigantine, who was recognized for her untitled watercolor painting of flowers, and Susan Irland of Egg Harbor Township for her acrylic painting titled, “Koi.”

Garvey and Leiby were entered in the non-professional category, while Irland competed among professional artists.

The statewide juried show included first place winners from each category in the county senior art shows held earlier in the year. Works of 12 Atlantic County artists were juried into the statewide competition.

Residents 60 years of age and older participated in Atlantic County’s 44th annual senior citizens art show and exhibit May 22 to June 18 at the Ventnor branch of the Atlantic County Library System.

Professional and non-professional artists competed in a variety of categories including acrylic, craft, digital imagery, mixed media, oil, pastel, photography, drawing/print, sculpture and water color.
