To celebrate American Heart Month, the Atlantic County Animal Shelter is reducing all adoption fees to $25 beginning Friday, Feb. 10 through Monday, Feb. 20. Normal adoption fees are $110 for dogs and $85 for cats.

February is American Heart Month, and owning a pet may help improve your heart health.

According to the American Heart Association, pets can help reduce stress, boost mood, encourage exercise, and lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Dog owners in particular may benefit from additional exercise from dog walks and playtime activities.

All pets adopted from the shelter include mandatory sterilization, age appropriate vaccinations, diagnostic testing, a microchip and a free veterinary consultation. Adopted dogs also receive free obedience classes.

The shelter, located at 240 Old Turnpike Road in Pleasantville, is open to the public by appointment 1-4 p.m. seven days a week.
