Once a year, Medicare beneficiaries have an opportunity to review their Medicare choices, see what new benefit options Medicare has to offer, and make changes to their coverage during the annual Medicare Open Enrollment period, began Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7.
Coverage selected during this time becomes effective as of Jan. 1.
The Atlantic County Office on Aging and State Health Insurance Assistance Program staff provide free Medicare open enrollment counseling and assistance for those who feel overwhelmed by health and prescription insurance plan choices or need help in making informed decisions about which plan is best suited to their needs and which programs could help save them money.
SHIP counselors can be reached 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1-888-426-9243 or 609-645-5965.
