The Green Thumb Garden Club of Somers Point welcomed speakers representing the Great Egg Harbor River Watershed Association (gehwa.org) at its February meeting.

Greg Gregory, River Council chair, and Lynn Maun, educational coordinator, regaled the members with pictures, videos and stories reflecting the biodiversity of the area both on land and in the ocean.

Maun has participated in programs for students across the region.

She has shared snapshots of plants, insects, bees, spiders and more, mostly taken in her pesticide-free backyard and pond.

Gregory, an outdoorsman, spoke of fishing and the life cycle of fish such as stripers, menhaden and weakfish, reinforcing his stories with action shots of his grandchildren fishing.

For more about protecting the environment, join the Green Thumb Garden Club for its next meeting on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. at the Somers Point Senior Center. For more information call Heidi at (609) 703-9170.
