Atlantic Cape Community College broke ground Thursday on the new Wind Training Center, funded through a $2.9 million New Jersey Offshore Wind Safety Training Challenge grant.
The event took place at ACCC’s Worthington Atlantic City Campus at 1535 Bacharach Blvd. Among those in attendance were ACCC President Dr. Barbara Gaba, Workforce Development Senior Director Sherwood Taylor, representatives from the college’s GWO-certified partner Arcon Training Center, AIS Training and 3t Energy Group, as well as state and local dignitaries.
The grant is administered by the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education with the support of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.
Through the grant, the college will establish an industry-recognized Global Wind Organization (GWO) safety training program and facility to prepare New Jersey workers for jobs in the state’s growing offshore wind industry in line with the governor’s goal of generating 7.5 GW of offshore wind power by 2035.
The grant will also be used to establish a Sea Survival module at Gardner’s Basin. Facilities are anticipated to be operational by the end of 2022.
