Somers Point will celebrate its Good Old Days Festival on Saturday, Sept. 11, in John F. Kennedy Park.
The free event runs from noon to 6 p.m. and features a variety of music, antique cars, children’s activities and community group participation.
There will be hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas.
Proceeds from the festival benefit the Lawrence “Bud” Kern Memorial Trust Fund.
The fund was established in 1979 to recognize graduating high school students from Somers Point who have demonstrated community spirit and pride through their involvement in civic and scholastic activities.
Recipients are chosen annually and receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. The memorial fund honors the late Bud Kern, a former Recreation Commission chairperson and Little League president.
Kern was instrumental in the development of recreation facilities and programs within Somers Point. It was his idea to have an end-of-summer community picnic, which gave rise to the Good Old Days Festival, according to a Facebook posting about the event.
