The Atlantic County Division of Public Health has reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday morning, bringing the total number countywide to 41.
The count includes three females, ages 47, 59 and 88, and seven males, ages 34, 38, 50, 60, 63, 69 and 79. One is hospitalized. No further information about the people was provided in a county press release.
Due to limited resources, the New Jersey Department of Health is restricting testing at this time to only those people who are symptomatic for respiratory illness.
“Healthcare providers should know how to direct symptomatic patients who meet the criteria for testing,” Atlantic County spokeswoman Linda Gilmore said.
A positive test does not change the recommended guidance. The data collected is used to help the state in its modeling and projections, Gilmore said in a statement.
Public health officials remind residents to remain vigilant and help reduce the spread of the virus by staying home and practicing safe respiratory and hygiene habits as well as to follow the recommended guidance for social distancing.
There is currently no vaccine or prescribed treatment for this virus. Those who experience mild or moderate symptoms such as fever, cough, aches and pains, are advised to stay at home, self-isolate and monitor their symptoms. Most recover within two or more weeks.
People with more severe symptoms including fever, cough and shortness of breath, and who may have underlying health conditions including heart or lung disease, diabetes or a compromised immune system, should contact their medical provider.
