Shore Medical Center is pleased to announce that Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Residency Director Matthew Piskun, PharmD, MBA, is the recipient of the medical center’s most recent Leadership Profile Award.  The Leadership Profile Award is presented several times each year to a manager for exemplary job performance and exhibiting characteristics most valued in leaders within the organization.

Piskun joined Shore in 2005 as clinical coordinator and assistant director of pharmacy, and in 2013 was promoted to Director of Pharmacy.

In 2011, Matt started the Pharmacy Residency program at Shore Medical Center. As Pharmacy Residency Director, Piskun has harnessed the enthusiasm of pharmacy residents at Shore, helping two residents each year implement improvements across the medication-use spectrum, including stroke patient education, rounding with prescribers, and the use of medication description cards for patients. Each year has presented a different challenge, but all ten residents who have graduated from the program are employed in their desired field as a result of Matt’s dedication to their growth.

In his role as Director of Pharmacy, Piskun has implemented multiple process improvements to increase efficiency within the pharmacy, and works hard to integrate pharmacy staff with the greater hospital community. Matt has advocated for initiatives around safe antibiotic use and safe opioid use and works closely with members of the nursing and physician staff to implement process changes. He has also played an instrumental role in several hospital-wide system upgrades, improving the care environment.

In addition to his leadership roles in pharmacy, Piskun has taken an active role in numerous initiatives to improve the patient experience at Shore, in conjunction with the medical center’s designation as a Planetree Patient-Centered Care Hospital.

“Matt has been my mentor for the past five years. He’s shown me what it means to be an innovative, yet steady manager,” says Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator Maggie Randazzo, PharmD, BCPS. “Matt has grand visions for the pharmacy profession, and each day he works toward making those visions a reality.”

When asked how he feels about receiving the Leadership Profile award, Piskun said it feels great to be recognized by his peers.

“This award is a source of pride and validates that the outstanding efforts of our pharmacy staff are appreciated by the entire organization,” Piskun said.

A native of Rockland County, NY, Piskun resides in Egg Harbor Township with his wife, Melanie, and their children, Luke and Amanda. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching his children’s sports teams and writing fiction.
