Here is a complete listing of activities taking place in February 2017. SPEAKERS BUREAU

The Shore Medical Center Speakers Bureau is available to promote healthcare awareness and quality of life for all members of the community. PREVENTATIVE SCREENINGS

Free Blood Pressure Screenings – Nearly one-third of American adults have high blood pressure, and many don’t even know it. Make sure your blood pressure is right where it’s supposed to be with these free screenings held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Shore Medical Center Thrift Shop, Somers Point Shopping Center, Route 9.

Cancer Screenings – The NJ Cancer Education and Early Detection Program provides free cancer screenings for breast, cervical, colorectal and prostate cancer for people who are uninsured or underinsured (high deductibles or out of pocket expenses). CAREGIVER SUPPORT

*NEW* The Center for Family Caregivers
Shore Medical Center is pleased to introduce the Center for Family Caregivers, a free, public resource dedicated to the support and well-being of the family caregiver. The center is open Monday – Friday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and is located on the Lower Level, West Zone. For more info, call 609-653-3969 or email thecenterforfamilycaregivers@shoremedicalcenter.org.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS

American Heart Association Training for Healthcare Providers: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Classes offered monthly. American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR, AED and First Aid Course – This five-hour course will teach members of the community how to perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), how to work with an automated external defibrillator (AED) and the basics of first aid. Shore Senior Socials – Seniors are invited to attend a FREE social and educational event hosted by Shore volunteers on the third Wednesday of each month, featuring free “Bingo” for prizes, complimentary refreshments, and an educational session hosted by a Shore health expert or community partner:

SURGICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Joint Replacement and Spine Surgery education programs provide comprehensive educational opportunities to learn more about what will be involved in your care at Shore. Meet with nurses, physical therapists, social workers and discharge planners. Sessions are designed to educate you about each phase of your surgery and recovery. Sessions are held in the 2nd floor surgical conference room in the Surgical Tower.

Neck and Spine Surgery Education Program

TOBACCO PREVENTION & TREATMENT PROGRAM

Shore’s Tobacco Prevention & Treatment Program offers counseling with trained tobacco dependence treatment specialists. You will receive individualized planning sessions focused on tips, strategies and relapse prevention, plus updated information on nicotine replacement therapies. For information, call 609-653-3440.

CANCER RECOVERY AND SUPPORTIVE CARE SERVICES

The Shore Cancer Center offers a full range of supportive and continuing care services. Please call the Cancer Center at 609-653-3585 for information on supportive care, education for patients and their families, survivorship programs and services in our community.

SHORE BEGINNINGS: PRENATAL AND WELLNESS

Breastfeeding Support (Outpatient Appointments or Group Sessions): Shore’s lactation consultants are available to teach new and expecting moms about the importance of breastfeeding, along with techniques to be successful in your breastfeeding journey. To learn more, call 609-653-3238.

Need a doctor? Finding the right physician who fits the needs of you and your family is essential. Shore’s Physician Referral Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at www.shoremedicalcenter.org/doctors. This is an online physician finder that lets you search our staff of more than 350 skilled physicians by specialty, location, language and more, with information including insurances accepted, office locations, hours and educational background. Community Cardio Challenge at Greate Bay Raquet and Fitness
Shore Medical Center is teaming up with Greate Bay Racquet & Fitness and Ocean First Bank to present the Community Cardio Challenge on Monday, Feb. 6 to kick off American Heart Month. The Community Cardio Challenge will take place at Greate Bay Racquet & Fitness, and it will include a FREE day of activities, health screenings and more. This day is open to everyone, as Greate Bay Racquet & Fitness will offer a one-day FREE pass to everyone who comes to the gym that day. Greate Bay Racquet & Fitness (www.greatebay.com) is located at 90 Mays Landing Road in Somers Point, NJ.

The Community Cardio Challenge is a contest that is designed specifically by the trainers at Greate Bay. Programs are available for advanced, intermediate, and beginner levels. People of all ages and fitness levels are invited to participate, and then claim the bragging rights of the being the best in the community!
